We all know Cyber Monday (the first Monday after Thanksgiving) is huge for e-commerce, but Black Friday was also a big day for online shopping! According to comScore, online spending hit $531 million on Black Friday, a 22% increase over the total last year. InformationWeek reported comScore’s chairman saying:
“The Friday after Thanksgiving is known for heavy spending in retail stores, but it’s clear that consumers are increasingly turning to the Internet to make their holiday purchases…Online spending on Black Friday has historically represented an early indicator of how the rest of the season will shake out.”
Overall, consumers are expected to continue using online shopping in years to come as an alternative to braving the crowds as the holidays approach. The prospects you approach this season may not be able to activate the site before the holiday, but it’s still a great time to share these statistics with them so they’re ready for next year, when online spending is anticipated to climb even higher!
